Safeguarding and Child Protection

Pendle Primary Academy is absolutely committed to creating a safe environment for all our children. Safeguarding is our highest priority and the responsibility of every adult working in or connected to our school.

We recognise our moral and statutory duty to ensure that children are effectively safeguarded from the potential risk of harm and that the safety and wellbeing of every child is paramount in all aspects of our work as a school,

Our Safeguarding Aims
  • Protect: To protect children from all forms of abuse, including neglect.

  • Prevent: To prevent impairment of children’s health or development.

  • Ensure: To ensure children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.

  • Promote: To promote the best outcomes for all children.

Reporting a Concern: Who to Contact

We maintain an ethos where staff, children, parents, and governors feel confident and comfortable to raise concerns immediately.  We promise that effective, confidential, and appropriate action will always be taken.

If you have ANY concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please report it straight away to one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs):

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is:
  • Miss Catherine Jermyn, Assistant Principal

Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are:

  • Mr Simon Thompson, Principal
  • Mrs Clare Smalley, SENDCo
  • Mrs Joanne Birmingham, Lead Practitioner
  • Miss Lydia McMinn, EYFS Leader
  • Mrs Julie Gill, KS1 Leader
  • Mrs Bethany Garden, KS2 Leader

As part of our commitment to keeping children safe, we are proud to be part of Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass is a unique Police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.

Being part of Encompass means our school will receive a notification from Lancashire Police before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved in or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous day. The information is given in confidence to the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) and will enable us to provide the best possible support for the child and family.
